July 7th – 10:00am to 3:00pm
A Course Sheep Runs*
Each participant will be allowed ten minutes on the AKC A course to practice whatever they would like. The sheep will be set out once at the beginning of the run. Additional setouts may be requested, but be prepared to provide an adequate bribe to the stock handlers. :o) Runs will be called for unacceptable behavior on the dog’s part as well as excessive running of the sheep. Participants will be required to pay for any harm to livestock inflicted by themselves or their dogs.
Participants may introduce new dogs to livestock in a calm, controlled environment. An experienced handler will be available to help with this process. Sheep will be used for this event. Dogs that are overly aggressive to the livestock may be asked to leave the arena.
This is the capstone event of the GRSC Fun Day! There is no cost to participate. The object of the challenge is to work with a partner to move a single chicken around an obstacle course as quickly as possible. Participants will be allowed to pick the chicken of their choice. Once selected, the chicken will be unceremoniously dumped onto the chicken maze course. Participants must convince the chicken to go through all obstacles on the course. Any means of getting the chicken to behave in the manner desired will be allowed. Handlers may not touch the chicken, however. If any obstacle is missed, then the run is not counted. If the chicken chooses to leave the course, then the run is not counted. If the chicken meets his/her maker, the participant is required to bring the chicken home with them and eat him/her for dinner. The run ends when the participant closes the door on the chicken suite (with the chicken happily in residence!). The handlers with the fastest time will win an amazingly fowl prize!
GRSC club members get one run (A Course or Intro.) at no charge. Additional runs may be purchased at $5 each. Non-members will be charged $10 per run. There is no cost to try your hand at the Chicken Challenge.
* These events will require participants to sign a standard release of liability agreement prior to participation in the event.
